BROOKLYN CHOPS DOWN 'CUTTERS, 1-0

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – August 26, 2016 The Cyclones bats continued their slumber, but that didn’t matter on Friday night as Harol Gonzalez (6-2) and two Brooklyn relievers combined on Brooklyn’s sixth shutout win of the season. Brooklyn defeated the Crosscutters 1-0 behind a dazzling performance on the mound.

It was a pitcher’s duel at BB & T Ballpark in Williamsport, as southpaw JoJo Romero and RHP Harol Gonzalez both dominated on the mound. Romero kept the Cyclones without a hit until the fourth inning, while Gonzalez was able to limit the traffic on the bases throughout the evening. But in the top of the sixth, Brooklyn was finally able to break through and give the scoreboard some company.

Michael Paez started the threat with a ground rule double down the left field line, but Gene Cone struck out and Colby Woodmansee grounded out, as the Cyclones went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position to start the game. Ali Sanchez followed though, and the Brooklyn backstop connected on an 0-2 offering and sent it back up the middle to plate Paez and give Brooklyn a 1-0 advantage.

With their All-Star hurler on the mound, that lead would be more than enough. Gonzalez tossed 6.1 shutout frames, scattering seven hits and a walk while striking out four before handing the ball off to Alejandro Castro who finished up the seventh without incident. Joe Zanghi was next out of the bullpen, as the righthander tossed 2.0 near-perfect frames, allowing just one walk, en rout to his seventh save of the season.

Brooklyn will hope to make it two in a row when they square off with Williamsport on Saturday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Gabriel Llanes (4-6) will make the start for Brooklyn. The Cyclones will return to MCU Park on Monday to open a three-game set with the Auburn Doubledays. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a Cyclones fleece blanket to keep you warm during the off-season. Tickets start at just $10 and are on sale now at BrooklynCyclones.com, by calling 718-507-TIXX or in person at the MCU Park Box Office.
