A NIGHT TO FORGET AS BKLYN FALLS 4-1

LOWELL, MA – August 20, 2016 – It was a day to forget for the Brooklyn Cyclones. First, the start of the game was delayed when the Cyclones barely arrived in time for the scheduled first pitch due to unending traffic on the bus trip to Massachusetts. Once the game began, things didn’t go much better as the team managed just five hits en route to a 4-1 loss at the hands of the Spinners.

RHP Harol Gonzalez (5-2) was forced into action on Saturday when LHP Thomas Szapucki had to be scratched due to a stiff back. The All-Star quickly found himself in a hole, as Lowell opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to a two-out RBI double off the bat of Tucket Tubbs, which plated Matt McLean and gave the Spinners an early 1-0 lead.

Lowell tacked on insurance runs in the fourth, courtesy of a Carlos Tovar RBI single, and fifth, on a sac fly from Chris Madera that extended their lead to 3-0. Meanwhile, the Cyclones, who had a pair of single in the top of the first, had 14 consecutive batters retired in order until Anthony Dimino opened the top of the sixth with a leadoff double. Dimino, making his Cyclones debut, would later come around to score on an RBI single from Michael Paez that made it 3-1, and put a pair of runners aboard with nobody out. But Lowell starter Josh Pennington struck out Desmond Lindsay and got Colby Woodmansee to ground into a double play to end the threat.

That would be all the offense for the Cyclones, as Dimino’s eighth inning single was the only baserunner for the remainder of the contest for Brooklyn. Lowell was able to tack on another run off of Brooklyn reliever Alejandro Castro in the bottom of the sixth to make the final score 4-1.

The Cyclone will look to rebound from the loss when they take on the Spinners in the middle game of three at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, MA on Sunday evening. RHP Gabriel Llanes (3-5) will make the start for the Cyclones. The ‘Clones will return to Coney Island on Tuesday for a three-game set with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Super Hero Night at the ballpark. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a Lucas “Duda Smash” Bobblehead and Midtown Comics will also be distributing free comic books for fans in attendance. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at 718-507-TIXX, in person at the MCU Park Box Office or at BrooklynCyclones.com.
