CYCLONES LOSE HEARTBREAKER, 1-0

BROOKLYN, NY – July 14, 2016 – The Brooklyn Cyclones saw their four-game winning streak come to an end on Thursday night as they fell to the Lowell Spinners, 1-0. The Cyclones went just 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position and had two runners thrown out at the plate to waste a dominant performance from Harol Gonzalez on the mound.

Gonzalez was unhittable for most of the night – literally – as he did not allow a Spinners hit until the top of the seventh inning. It marked the the second time this season that the righthander managed to take a no-hitter into the seventh, the last time being on June 23rd at Connecticut.

The teams traded zeros for seven innings before Lowell scored the game’s lone run off LHP Taylor Henry (1-1). The Brooklyn southpaw allowed a leadoff single to Victor Acosta in the top of the eighth, but after a sacrifice bunt and a ground out it appeared as though the Cyclones would escape unscathed when Tyler Hill hit a ground ball to second base for what seemed like a sure out. But Michael Paez, making just his second professional start, threw wide of first base, allowing Hill to reach and Acosta to score with the game’s lone run.

The Cyclones mounted a rally in the bottom of the ninth as Colby Woodmansee doubled on a ground ball to right field then reached third on a passed ball to move 90 feet away from tying the game, with just one out. But with runners on the corners, Jay Jabs lofted a fly ball into foul territory that Lowell 2B Chris Madera was able to make a play on and quickly fired to home plate in plenty of time to cut down Woodmansee, who tried to tag up from third base for the final out of the game.

Brooklyn will look to rebound in the middle game of a three-game set with the Spinners on Friday evening. Firrst pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. Tomorrow, the Cyclones will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Municipal Credit Union (MCU), The first 2,000 fans to enter the park will receive a Brooklyn Cyclones portable phone charger courtesy of MCU. Also don’t forget to stay after the game and enjoy a special post-game firework show.
