CYCLONES BATS STUCK IN THE MUCK, FALL 2-0

Batavia, NY – July 27 - Luis Cessa pitched five innings, giving up only one run, six hits and striking out three batters. The offense was a no show tonight as the Muckdogs pitching staff dominated the night giving up only three hits and walking two batters. Brooklyn lost game three of the series by a score of 2-0.

The Muckdogs didn’t waste any time getting on the board tonight, as they put up the games lone run in the first inning. Alex Mejia, Cardinals 4th round draft-pick in 2012, led the game off with a single up the middle against Cessa. After Breyvic Valera flew out for the first out, Garrett Wittels doubled to left field scoring Mejia, giving the Muckdogs a 1-0 lead.

Tyler Vanderheiden came in the eighth inning to try and keep the score at 1-0, but David Washington continued his hot hitting on the day. After Wittels grounded out to first baseman Jayce Bod, Patrick Wilson reached on an infield single to third baseman Jeff Reynolds. Vanderheiden then struck out Jesus Montero for the second out of the inning, bringing up David Washington. Washington would then rip a double to left field, scoring Wilson and giving the Muckdogs a 2-0 lead. That was the first run that Tyler Vanderheiden has given up this year.

After winning the first two games and putting up 10 runs in those two games, it seemed as though the Cyclones offense was turning the page. However, the Cyclones offense really struggled tonight as the Muckdogs relievers struck out 12 batters, Phillip Evans struck out three times and Stefan Sabol struck out four times. The Cyclones pitching staff continues to toss gem after gem but the offense hasn’t been there as the Cyclones start to fall in the division. The Cyclones are in second place behind the Hudson Valley Renegades who have been on a tear as of late.

The Brooklyn Cyclones will start a three game series with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers tomorrow, July 28 at 7:05 PM. The Cyclones will return to MCU Park on August 1, when they start a three game series against the Connecticut Tigers.
