BROOKLYN DROPS RUBBER GAME

The Cyclones gave up a season-high eight runs, losing to the Scrappers 8-1 on Monday, thanks in part to a fifth inning that saw Brooklyn pitchers walk seven consecutive batters.

Offensively, the Cyclones out-hit the Scrappers eight to four, led by CF Kirk Nieuwenhuis, he went 4-for-4 and drove in Brooklyn’s only run. SS Reese Havens, 2B Josh Satin (pictured, by George Napolitano) and 3B Eric Campbell each picked up a hit .1B Ike Davis also extended his hitting streak to 12 games.

RHP Jenry Mejia made his Cyclones debut, pitching four innings, allowing five runs on just two hits, due in part to five walks.  RHP Wendy Rosa, LHP Jimmy Johnson, LHP Roy Merritt and RHP Mike Lynn all followed Mejia. They combined for five innings, struck out four batters and allowed two runs.

The Cyclones are off tomorrow, and then head to Jamestown for a three-game series against the Jammers.  Brooklyn returns home on Saturday for a big weekend at the ballpark featuring a Salute to Billy Joel, a replica jersey, pork rind sculptures, and Boomer & Carton!

On Saturday, the first 2,500 fans will receive a Billy Joel Baseball, as we salute Billy Joel. It’s also Bike night at the stadium, presented by Allstate Insurance.
