Here is our weekly look at how some of your favorite Cyclones from the past are performing so far during the 2012 campaign.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis -- Captain Kirk’s hot start to his professional career has continued, as the 2008 third round pick is hitting .316 (24-76) with 11 runs scored, four doubles, one triple and a pair for home runs as a table setter from the leadoff spot in the lineup. He has also impressed with several highlight real defensive plays from his spot in centerfield
Dustin Martin -- The former Cyclone, who was traded to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for Luis Castillo in 2007, rejoined the Mets organization earlier this week and is currently playing for Buffalo (AAA) of the International League. In two games with the Bisons, Martin is hitting .400 (2-5) with a home run and an RBI.
Reese Havens -- After missing the first 21 games of the season with back injuries, the member of the 2008 Cyclones wasted no time getting back in the swing of things. In his first at-bat of the season on Sunday, April 29th, the first round pick turned around the first pith that he saw for a two-run blast and finished the game 3-for-4.
Wilmer Flores -- The youngest player to ever suit up for the Cyclones is off to another strong start with St. Lucie (A) of the Florida State League. The team has a 19-4 record so far, and leads the Southern Division by 8.0 games. The 20-year-old is batting .295 (23-78) with nine runs scored, four doubles, three home runs and 18 RBI. After beginning the year 1-for-18, the Valencia, Venezuela native is hitting .367 (22-60) over his last 18 games.
T.J. Rivera -- Rivera is off to a torrid start for Savannah (A) of the South Atlantic League. The 2011 Cyclone, who was an undrafted free agent out of Troy University, ranks third in the SAL with a .396 (36-91) average through the first 24 games of the season. The Bronx, NY native has 11 runs scored, six doubles, three home runs and 15 RBI. He also ranks third in the league with a .477 on-base percentage. The 6-1, 190 pound infielder has hit safely in 21 of his 23 starts and began the season with a 13-game hitting streak.
