GIANTS, COHEN, WIN BIG GAME

No one thought the Giants could pull up the upset over the Perfect Patriots.  No one, that is, except Cyclones GM Steve Cohen, who staked his own pride on the line because of his belief in Big Blue.

Cohen issued the challenge to the New England-area Lowell Spinners once the Super Bowl matchup was set.  If New York won, the Lowell GM, Tim Bawmann, would trvel to Brooklyn for his team's August 21 series against the Cyclones and work on the Brooklyn grounds crew.  If the Giants lost, Cohen would make the trip to Lowell and take the same job.

"New England's had some sports success in recent years," said Cohen, "but I know that all things still run through the Big Apple.  The Giants were the ultimate underdogs, and New York always rallies around a team like that!"

The Giants' thrilling 17-14 win to halt the Patriots' "perfect season" had dozens of hold-your-breath moments -- perhaps none bigger than Eli Manning's escape from what looked like a certain sack to throw a pass that David Tyree miraculously  caught against his helmet, with one hand.

"I can't lie," says Cohen.  "I thought I'd have to start making my travel arrangements at that point, but when Tyree caught that pass, I knew fate was on the Giants' sideline."

"We'll have some fun things planned for Tim when he's at KeySpan Park" continued Cohen.  "I'm looking forward to seeing how well he can dance the Cha-Cha Slide, or how he'll look as a member of the Drag Queens!"  "He's a good sport, so I know he'll honor his side of things.  I just hope he's got thick enough skin to handle his time in Brooklyn!"

Bawmann could not be reached for comment.

The Cyclones will host the Lowell Spinners from August 21-23.
