Brooklyn, NY -- August 16, 2013 -- James Roche helped power the Cyclones offense to a 6-4 win on Friday night over the Vermont Lake Monsters. Roche went 2-for-4 with two RBI, connecting for his second home run in as many games. Roche now has four home runs on the season and 18 extra base hits. After the Lake Monsters scored on a botched groundball from L.J.Mazzilli to give them an early 1-0 lead, Roche picked up his second baseman by connecting on a solo shot that wrapped around the foul pole, tying the game at one.

Brooklyn took the lead in the bottom of the third inning scoring three runs to go up 4-1. Anthony Chavez started the one out rally with a single to left field. Patrick Biondi and Gavin Cecchini followed with walks to load the bases for L.J. Mazzilli. Lake Monsters starter Lee Sosa had trouble finding the strike zone, and walked in the go-ahead run, making it 2-1 Cyclones. Jared King then got his first RBI since returning to the lineup on a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Biondi from third. Roche added to the lead connecting for his second hit and RBI on a single to left field, scoring Cecchini. The Cyclones tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth to go back up three after allowing a run in the top half of the inning. With King at the plate, Lake Monsters pitcher Junior Mendez threw a wild pitch allowing speedster Patrick Biondi to score from third, giving the Cyclones a 5-2 lead.

John Gant pitched like his usual self through the first five innings, striking out seven and allowing one run. Gant got into a little bit of the trouble in the top of the sixth inning, letting the Lake Monsters cut the lead to 5-4. Gant finished with 6.0 IP, allowing three earned runs on eight hits, striking out seven before being relieved by Cristian Chivilli.Gant adds to his NYPL league leading strikeout total which now stands at 68. Johnny Magliozzi came in a tough spot with the tying run at second and winning run at first in the top of the eighth, and retired the next three batters to get out of the inning. Magliozzi came back out for the ninth to record his fifth save.

Brooklyn added an insurance run for Magliozzi in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly to left field from Biondi, giving them a 6-4 lead. The Cyclones had six hits on the night, with the only multi-hit game coming from Roche. Cecchini extended his hitting streak to 14 games when he singled on a line drive to right field. Cecchini is closing in on the Cyclones franchise record held by Lucas Duda. Duda went on a 17-game hit streak in 2007. If Cecchini continues his streak, he will have a chance to tie Duda on August 19 in the first game of a doubleheader with the Staten Island Yankees.
