CATCHING UP WITH PHIL EVANS So we heard that you are heading to spring training in a rather unique way. Why don’t you tell us a little bit about it.

Phil Evans: It was pretty interesting. I drove all the way from San Diego to St. Lucie. I stopped in Arizona along to way to pick up Cole Frenzel. We stopped in San Antonio to check out The Alamo. It was a pretty cool experience. I wanted to have my car with me this year because everywhere else in the organization, you need to get yourself to the ballpark. In Brooklyn, we have vans that everyone comes over in together, so having my car will be a lot of help in Savannah or St. Lucie or wherever I end up this year. What did you do during the off season? Did you get to travel anyplace? Were you able to do anything fun?

PE: I spent as much time with my family and friends as I could. I was gone for a LONG time last year, and Brooklyn is really far from San Diego, so I didn’t get to see my family that much. I didn’t travel anywhere, but I did get to enjoy the sunny beaches of San Diego. You spent several months in spring training, and then extended spring training. Are you excited to head back to PSL? Hopefully you'll be there for half the time this year.

PE: Yeah, last year we were there for the long haul, so hopefully this year it will be for a lot less time. But Port St. Lucie is a good time. We had a lot of really good guys on the team last year, so I’m excited to get back and hang out with the guys from last years team. What are some of the moments from your time in Brooklyn that stick out in your mind?

PE: The best part of coming to the ballpark every day was seeing all of the fans every night. The fan base was amazing in Brooklyn, great support from each and every one of them. But if there is one memory that sticks out, it was definitely clinching our spot into the playoffs! What current major leaguer would you compare your game to? Is there anyone you try to emulate?

PE: Jimmy Rollins is the player that I try to emulate every time I step on the field. He plays the game the right way, he hustles, he plays great defense, he is a leader on and off the field. He’s not a big guy, and neither am I, so it’s good to see a little fellah make a big impact. You got to go to Citi Field a couple time last summer, what did you think of the ballpark?

PE: Citi Field is the best ballpark I have stepped foot it. I had never been there for a game before last year. A bunch of us went there before our season started and we had such an awesome time, we made sure to get there any night we could. What advice would you give to any player who might be coming to Brooklyn for the first time in 2013?

PE: The one thing I would say is to make sure you get out and see the sights of New York as much as possible. It’s an amazing city. Plus, enjoy the fans and the whole ballpark experience. Every day you go to MCU Park, do whatever it takes to win the game, because winning games in Brooklyn is like nothing else I have ever experience.
