BROOKLYN BATS FALL SILENT IN 6-1 LOSS

Aberdeen, MD – June 22 The Cyclones opened up a three-game series in Aberdeen with a 6-1 loss at the hands of the IronBirds. For the second night in a row, Brooklyn was only able to push one run across the plate, collecting only a pair of hits, none of which came after the third inning.

After an hour and 50 minute rain delay at the start of the game, the Cyclones wasted little time before making their mark on the scoreboard. After a scoreless first frame, Alex Sanchez began the second inning with a leadoff double before moving to third on a passed ball. Kevin Plawecki, making his third start since being tabbed with the Mets supplemental first round pick at the beginning of the month, collected his first professional RBI with a groundout to give Brooklyn the early 1-0 edge.

With Julian Hilario on the mound for the Cyclones, it looked like that would be all the offense they would need. The righthander cruised through the first five innings of the game, allowing just two hits, but Hilario ran into trouble in the sixth. Will Howard started the Aberdeen rally with a leadoff single before swiping second to move into scoring position. After a pair of outs, Torsten Boss connected on a clutch, two-out RBI single to knot the game at 1-1.

An inning later, the IronBirds took advantage of the Brooklyn bullpen to gain control of the game for good. Dawrin Frias (1-1), who was so good in relief on Opening Day, struggled on Friday evening allowing four runs, all with two outs, as Aberdeen jumped in front 5-1. The ‘Birds tacked on an insurance run in the eighth to make the final score 6-1.

The Cyclones will look to snap their two game skid when they take on the IronBirds tomorrow evening in the middle game of a three game set. RHP Rainy Lara will make the start and his 2012 debut for the Cyclones. Brooklyn returns to MCU Park on Monday to take on the Hudson Valley Renegades. Ticket start at just $9 and are available now by calling 718-507-TIXX, visiting the MCU Park box office, or online at BrooklynCyclones.com.
