Brooklyn, NY – July 18thThe Brooklyn Cyclones (16-14), led by All-Star Shortstop Jose Reyes, fell to the Lowell Spinners (13-17) by a score of 11-5 on Monday afternoon to end what was their second four game winning streak of the season (June 19th-22nd). The victory was the first for Lowell at MCU Park since September 6th, 2009.

Reyes’ was penciled in his customary leadoff spot and finished his rehab assignment by going 1-for-3, highlighted by a double to left-center and run scored as well the obligatory “Claw.”

“I didn’t think the ball would travel that far, but I’ll take the double,” Reyes said. “I’ll hit the triple tomorrow.”

The shortstop plans to rejoin the New York Mets this week, but he was appreciative of his short stint on Coney Island.

“It was fun meeting the guys [on the Cyclones] and being able to play on the beach. Now I can say that I played at this ballpark,” Reyes said.

Entering the day with a NYPL-leading team ERA of 2.68, starter Marco Camarena (1-3) struggled mightily in his sixth start of the season, allowing eight runs on seven hits in 5.0 innings. This was his first outing in which he allowed a home run since August 17th, 2009 when he was a member of the DSL Mets (R).

Spinners’ Chris Schwindenhammer got Lowell on the board in the top of the second with a deep three-run home run off the batter’s eye in centerfield, a rarity at MCU Park. Travis Shaw began the inning by singling and Boss Moanaroa followed with a walk.

Schwindenhammer added to the damage just two frames later by contributing another home run, a two-run blast to left-center, scoring Boss Moanaroa who had singled to right in the previous at-bat.

In the top of the fifth, Garin Cecchini deposited another Camarena offering over the fences in left for the Spinners’ second three-run home run of the day.

Trailing 8-0, Brooklyn added four in the bottom of the sixth inning on two-run singles by Charley Thurber and Nelfi Zapata.

Richard Lucas continued his impressive run as of late by blasting a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Jacksonville native has homered in three consecutive games and is hitting .347 (17-for-49) at MCU Park. Entering the day, he was hitting .319, which trails only team-leader Danny Muno (.351).

Brooklyn will travel to Aberdeen for a two game series, the first of which begins tomorrow, July 19, at 7 p.m. Eduardo Aldama (2-0, 1.93 ERA) will face Jake Cowan (0-3, 3.98 ERA). The Cyclones return home on Thursday, July 21st for the first of two games, also against the Aberdeen IronBirds. It will be Jersey Thursday and the first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a Red Cyclones Jersey courtesy of Verizon. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 718-577-TIXX, visiting the MCU Park box office, or by logging onto BrooklynCyclones.com.
