The first-place Brooklyn Cyclones (17-5) split a doubleheader the rival Staten Island Yankees (9-13) on Friday, winning game one, 4-0, before losing game two, 3-2.
In the first game, RHP Brandon Moore (3-0) shut down the Yankees with a seven-inning, complete-game shutout for his third win of the season.
In the second game, LHP Jim Fuller (3-1) continued Brooklyn's brilliant day on the mound with five shutout innings, before surrendering a run in the sixth inning, and two more in the seventh -- the first runs Fuller has allowed all season. Fuller left the game with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, and LHP Matias Carrillo surrendered a hit to give Staten Island a walk-off win. The Cyclones plated two runs in the game -- one in the second inning, and one in the fourth. Dock Doyle, Nick Giarraputo, Ralph Henriquez (pictured, by George Napolitano), and Alex Gregory all notched hits for Brooklyn, while Nick Santomauro collected an RBI. Giarraputo and Luis Rivera scored for the Cyclones.
The Cyclones' next home game is on Saturday at 6pm, when Brooklyn again takes on the Staten Island Yankees. Fans are invited to stay in their seats for a spectacular post-game fireworks show. In addition, the first 2,500 fans will receive a Visor, presented by Pepsi.
