Cyclones Day at Citi Field
It was not an ordinary Tuesday for some Cyclones fans; a lucky group of fans were treated to a fun evening at Citi Field.
Before the start of the game, fans were able to participate in a meet and greet and catch up with former Cyclones players who are currently playing for the Mets. Catcher Juan Centeno (’09, ’10), and Wilmer Flores (’08) signed autographs, took pictures, and quickly chatted with fans.
“It’s a great experience meeting up with Cyclones from the past and seeing how they’ve succeeded,” said fan Chris following the meet & greet.
Afterwards, Cyclones fans took over a section of Citi Field and were able to watch the Mets take on the Pittsburgh Pirates.
During the game, fans were able to watch other former Cyclones players like Juan Lagares (’08), Daniel Murphy (’06, ’08), Lucas Duda (’07), Eric Campbell (’08), and Jenrry Mejia (’08).
“To see where Cyclones [players] are now is a credit to the system for producing such talent at the major league level,” said another Cyclones fan, Ralph.
A triplet of former Cyclones led the way to help the Mets secure a 4-2 win on Tuesday night. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Juan Lagares hit a single to left field scoring Ruben Tejada and breaking a 2-2 tie. Right after, Daniel Murphy picked up his second double of the game, scoring Lagares and giving the Mets a 4-2 lead.
In the top of the eight, the Mets called on Jennry Mejia who trotted out to the mound and took care of business. Through two innings, Mejia gave up one hit, struck out a batter and went on to pick up his fourth save of the season.
“It’s nice to follow the players, it’s exciting to know you watched them when they were younger,” said Cyclones fan Janet.
