Cyclones drop opener at the Dutch, 3-2

 

WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY (July 1, 2019) – Despite scoring twice in the fifth, the Brooklyn Cyclones, the Short Season Class A affiliate of the New York Mets, were outlasted by the Hudson Valley Renegades 3-2 Monday night in the series opener at Dutchess Stadium.

BIG MOMENTS

  • Brooklyn’s potential rally ended in the ninth when Jake Mangum’s hard line drive up the middle was snagged by Renegades pitcher Shay Smiddy who earned made the play to win the game and earn the save.
  • Hudson Valley scored three runs over the first four innings, collecting an RBI double in the third from Garrett Hiott and an RBI single in the fourth from Nick Sogard to lead 3-0 against Cyclones starter Jaison Vilera.
  • Brooklyn cut the deficit to one run, scoring a pair of runs in the fifth on Sam Haggerty’s run-scoring double and Luke Ritter’s run-scoring single, making it 3-2.
