Ashford homers but Cyclones drop third straight

 

STATEN ISLAND, NY (June 22, 2019) – Zach Ashford crushed his first pro home run, but the Brooklyn Cyclones, the Short Season Class A affiliate of the New York Mets, dropped a 5-2 decision to the Staten Island Yankees Saturday night at Richmond County Bank Ballpark in the second game of a three-game set.

BIG MOMENTS

  • Miguel Flames’ RBI groundout in the sixth broke the tie, giving the Yankees a 3-2 advantage. Staten Island added two more in the seventh to extend the lead to 5-2.
  • Zach Ashford’s solo blast, his first pro home run, gave Brooklyn a 2-1 lead in the third frame. Juan De Leon tied the game with a solo jack for Staten Island to re-tie the game in the fourth.
  • Brooklyn reliever Matt Mullenbach stranded runners at second and third base with nobody out in the seventh, striking out the side in relief in his first pro outing.
