Soto's solo smash sinks Cyclones 3-2

STATEN ISLAND, NY (July 7, 2018) – Staten Island’s Junior Soto clobbered a tie-breaking solo homer in the eighth inning, sinking the Brooklyn Cyclones, the Short Season, Class A affiliate of the New York Mets, 3-2 Saturday night in the series opener at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.

BIG MOMENTS

  • Junior Soto’s solo home run against Cyclones reliever Billy Oxford in the bottom of the eighth gave the Yankees a 3-2 advantage.
  • Brooklyn tied the game 2-2 in the top of the sixth, scoring two runs on a Staten Island throwing error.
  • Staten Island scored the first two runs, taking the lead with Junior Soto’s RBI single in the second and doubling the lead with Frederick Cuevas’ run-scoring base knock in the fifth.
