BKLYN Drops 6th Straight

Brooklyn, NY – August 17, 2017 Dormant bats sent Brooklyn to its sixth straight loss as Aberdeen topped BKLYN, 5-0 at MCU Park.

Chris Viall turned in his best performance of the season on Thursday night. The tall lefty hurler efficiently worked through four innings of work while throwing 51 pitches. In the first, the Santa Cruz, California-native did what he is known for: Pound the strike zone. After striking out the first two batters in the ‘Birds lineup, Mason McCoy grounded out to short to end the frame.

The second inning proved troublesome for Viall. A leadoff double was quickly followed up by a single, putting runners on the corners. Viall’s two mistakes would cost him a run as Garret Copeland recorded a sacrifice fly and a RBI to make it 1-0 Aberdeen. Viall would escape the jam as third baseman Carl Stajduhar snagged a grounder, stepped on third for one out and threw to first for a double play. Across the diamond, Jeremy Vasquez finished the play with a scoop.

"He was pretty good," Cyclones manager Edgardo Alfonzo said. "With more control, that's a good sign for him. I love what I see. Locate pitches, the velocity was good, the tempo was good.

"We need guys who can throw strikes."

The third and fourth innings saw Viall return to form. No runners reached base and his swing-and-miss stuff was working as he recorded two more strikeouts. Jake Simon entered the game and got into some trouble. A double, error, single combo doubled Aberdeen’s lead. The visitors would tack on two more runs in the sixth to make the lead 4-0.

The Cyclones offense kicked things off in the bottom of the fourth. Vasquez recorded the team’s first hit of the day and Jose Miguel Medina followed with a single of his own. Yet, three straight swinging strikeouts ended the threat.

An added run in the seventh would make it 5-0 ‘Birds. At the end of the game the Cyclones could record only four hits and lose their sixth straight.
