Cyclones Swept Into All-Star Break, 2-1


 Fishkill, NY – August 13, 2017 -- The Hudson Valley Renegades who remain undefeated (6-0) agasint Brooklyn this season completed a three-game sweep of the Cyclones on Sunday evening by the score of 2-1.

RHP Jose Geraldo started for the Cyclones. It was his second appearance in a Brooklyn uniform since being promoted from Kingsport. He tossed six scoreless frames giving up just four hits, walking one and striking out three.

The Cyclones were unable to take advantage of some scoring opportunities as they stranded 12 men on base. In the top of the fifth inning Jeremy Wolf, who singled three times on the night, knocked a shot to left field before being moved to second after a Carlos Sanchez walk. With one out, Cecilio Aybar struck out and Walter Rasquin flied out to shut down the inning.

Another opportunity came in the seventh after Jose Maria opened with a double to center field which was followed by a Wolf single that moved him to third. Sanchez was retired and Aybar popped out before Walter Rasquin was plunked to load the bases. With two outs and bases loaded Franklin Correa struck out and another scoring opportunity was squandered.

The game was still scoreless heading into the eighth. Vasquez knocked a double to kick off the inning. Quinn Brodey struck out before Carl Stajduhar was walked. With two men on base the Renegades decided to relieve RHP Jhonleider Salinas for LHP Hunter Schryver. Vasquez moved to third on a Sanchez pop out before the southpaw gave up a single to Wolf that drove in the first run of the night, 1-0.

The Renegades were quick to answer. In the bottom of the frame, relief pitcher Stephen Villines let up a single and later a two-run homer that gave Hudson Valley a lead that would hold. Villines finished the night tossing 2.0 innings giving up three hits and striking out two.

Brooklyn is off the next two days as NYPL All-Star Game is Tuesday, August 15th in Tri-City. Representing the Cyclones is Walter Rasquin and Jose M. Medina The Cyclones return to action Wednesday, August 16th to open a three-game series with the Aberdeen Ironbirds.
