Lowell, MA – July 27, 2017 – After a league wide-off day on Wednesday, the Cyclones seemed more than a little rusty on Thursday evening as they were shut out at the hands of the Lowell Spinners, 6-0. Luis De Los Santos (0-1) was tagged with the loss after surrendering five runs in the fourth inning to give the Spinners more than enough breathing room.
It was a quiet night for the Brooklyn bats as they managed just four hits and never advanced a runner passed second base. Walter Rasquin went 0-for-4 and had his 10-game hitting streak come to a close.
On the mound, De Los Santos cruised early on, allowing just one base runner through the first three frames. But in the fourth the righthander ran into trouble in a big way. Juan Barriento opened the scoring with a two-RBI double and would later come home on a passed ball that made it 3-0. Nicholas Hamilton added an RBI single and Michael Osinski had a sac fly that made it 5-0. When the frame finally came to a close, De Los Santos’s night was over having allowed five runs, earned, on four hits with a pair of walks and three strikeouts in 3.1 IP.
The Spinners tacked on a run in the seventh off of reliever Chris Viall to make the final score 6-0.
The Cyclones will look to rebound on Friday evening in the middle game of the three-game set with the Spinners. RHP Darwin Ramos (1-3) will make the start for the Cyclones.
