BKLYN SWEPT, FALL TO SPINNERS 8-1


LOWELL, MA – August 22, 2016 – Brooklyn is swept in Lowell as their four game skid continues as they drop the final game of the series 8-1.

Brooklyn got their bats moving early as the team recorded three hits and a run in the first inning.Gene Cone and Desmond Lindsay knocked singles before Colby Woodmansee tallied an RBI on a fielders choice blooper to shallow center field.

The Spinners answered as they drove in two runs to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first. C.J. Chatham reached base on a fielding error by Woodmansee before Cyclones starting pitcher, Merandy Gonzalez let up four consecutive singles, two of which drove in a run. Gonzalez was replaced by RHP Alejandro Castro before the inning concluded. The Cyclones starter tossed 0.2 innings while giving up two runs, one of which was unearned, on four hits and zero walks.

Alejandro Castro continued on the mound for 1.1 innings letting up no runs on two hits before handing the ball to RHP Dillon Becker in the third inning. Becker struggled right out of the gate plunking Ryan Scott setting up Bobby Dalbec for a two- run shot over the center field wall to give the Spinners a 4-2 lead. The righthander was able to work his way out of the inning, threw one scoreless before running into more trouble. To open of the fifth Becker walked two consecutive batters before the Cyclones turned to Gabriel Feliz. After retiring two, Tucker Tubbs reached on a fielding error by Michael Paez and two runners scored after Desmond Lindsay booted the same ball in center field to boost the Spinners lead to 6-1,

Brooklyn’s offense stayed quiet throughout the game. Lowell was able to tack on another run off of Brooklyn reliever Joseph Zanghi in the bottom of the eighth to make the final score 8-1.

 

Brooklyn will look to bounce back from their four game skid when they send RHP Raul Jacobson to the mound.  The ‘Clones will return to Coney Island on Tuesday for a three-game set with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Super Hero Night at the ballpark. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a Lucas “Duda Smash” Bobblehead and Midtown Comics will also be distributing free comic books for fans in attendance.
