NATHAN TO WORRY ABOUT AS FRANKS RALLY FOR 5-4 WIN

BROOKLYN, NY – July 3, 2016 – The Coney Island Franks were the wieners as the Brooklyn Cyclones celebrated 100 Years of Nathan’s Famous with a 5-4 win over the Connecticut Tigers. Ali Sanchez went 3-for-3 with a run scored and a double in his return to the Brooklyn lineup to pace the offense.

After a scoreless first inning, the Connecticut Tigers pounced on Brooklyn starter Harol Gonzalez in the top of the second. The righthander hit a batter and issued a walk to start the frame before Josh Lester singled to load the bases with nobody out. Tanner Donnels took advantage of the scoring chance with an RBI single to draw first blood and Junnell Ledezma added a two-RBI double that made it 3-0. New York native Will Savage rounded out the scoring with a run scoring single that gave the Tigers a 4-0 edge.

But the Coney Island Franks still had plenty of time to ketchup (get it?) and that’s exactly what they did. Alex Sanchez, making his first appearance since June 24th, got things started in the bottom of the third with a lead-off double. Arnaldo Berrios followed with an RBI double and quickly came around to score on a Dale Burdick single to trim the deficit to 4-2.

The Fightin’ Franks kept coming, with a sac fly from Berrios in the fifth that made it 4-3 before capping the scoring in the bottom of the sixth. Nick Sergakis got things started with a single to center and moved into scoring position after a sac bunt from Colby Woodmansee. Blake Tiberi then roped a triple into the right-centerfield gap to score Sergakis with the game tying run. The former Louisville Cardinal would then come home to score on Jacob Zanon’s bloop single that just eluded a lunging Will Savage at second base to give the Coney Island Franks their first lead of the night at 5-4.

That is how it would stay,as four Cyclones relievers combined to toss 4.1 scoreless frames and close out the win. Harol Gonzalez struck out 10, for the second time in as many starts, over his 4.2 innings on the mound before turning the ball over to Dillon Becker (1-0) who got the win. Taylor Henry pitched a scoreless ninth to collect his second save of the year.

The Cyclones will head up to Batavia for a three game series with the Muckdogs starting on Monday at 7:05 PM. They will then return to MCU Park on Friday to open a three-game set with the Hudson Valley Renegades. Friday night means fireworks on Coney Island, and tickets start at just $10.
