With their strongest starter on the mound, the Cyclones looked to Marcos Molina to lead them out of a slump in Monday’s game against the Tigers. However, due to inclement weather and heavy fog in Connecticut, the last game of the three games series was suspended during the 6th inning, allowing the Tigers to walk away with a 2-0 victory.

The Tigers jumped on the board early, as they scored a run in the first inning that started with a lead off double from Rashad Brown. Brown lined a double down the first base line and was able to advance to third base, thanks to a ball that got passed Adrian Abreu behind home plate. Michael Gerber drove Brown in, as he picked up his 19th RBI of the season with a single hit on the first pitch he saw. Connecticut took a 1-0 lead and ended Molina’s streak of throwing 19 scoreless innings.

Molina bounced back, pitching a strong second and third inning and retiring seven Connecticut batters in a row. However, in the bottom of the fourth, the Tigers were back on the prowl. Michael Gerber and Joey Pankake hit back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners before the Tigers were able to pick up their second run of the game off of a double steal. Pankake broke for second base in an attempt to sacrifice the out for Gerber to run home. Abreu threw the ball down to Amed Rosario, but Rosario cut the throw off early and proceeded to fire back home to Abreu, attempting to get Gerber out in time. Gerber was able to score and make it a 2-0 ball game.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Cyclones made the call to the bullpen to allow Kelley Secrest to relieve Molina with two outs and the bases loaded. The southpaw came in to face the lefty, Michael Gerber, and was able to get out of the jam, as Gerber flew out to end the inning. 

Molina’s performance was not enough to carry the Cyclones struggling bats. The game was suspended in the top of the sixth inning, due to heavy fog around the field. After a short delay, the game was called and the Cyclones would not get another chance to make a comeback. Molina was charged with his first loss of the season and Brooklyn ends the road trip having lost their last five games.
