'CUTTERS SHUTOUT 'CLONES

CROSSCUTTERS SHUTOUT BROOKLYN 1-0

Williamsport, PA – July 30, 2013 -- The Cyclones were hard-pressed to find any offense Tuesday night as they managed only three hits in a loss to the Williamsport Crosscutters, 1-0. Cyclones pitchers combined for 8.0 IP, giving up one run, seven hits, four walks and 12 strikeouts in the losing effort.

Williamsport was able to score the only run of the game in the top of the fourth inning off Lugo. Logan Pierce led the inning off with a double to right before being moved to third on a single to right by Jiandido Tromp. Lugo was able to induce a groundball off the bat of Sam Dove that resulted in a double play, but Pierce was able to score making it 1-0 in favor of the 'Cutters.

The best chance Brooklyn had came in the top of the ninth inning when Patrick Biondi led off with an infield single to second base and stole second with Gavin Cecchini up to bat. Cecchini would proceed to strikeout for the first out of the inning bringing up L.J. Mazzilli with the tying run at second base. With Mazzilli up to bat, Biondi swiped his second stolen base on the evening moving to third with one out. Mazzilli didn’t get the job done as he would strikeout for the second out of the inning, bringing up the hottest hitter in the Cyclones lineup, Jared King. With the tying run only 90 feet away, King struck out to end the game, ending Brooklyn’s five game win streak.

Coming into tonight’s game, Brooklyn was riding a five game win streak, the longest such streak of the season. Jared King would extend his hitting streak to six games, going 6-for-14 over that span.

The Cyclones will take on the Crosscutters in the second game of a three game series tomorrow, July 31 at 7:00 PM. The Cyclones will return to MCU Park on August 6 to take on the Connecticut Tigers at 7:00 PM. For tickets call 718-507-TIXX, visit the ticket office, or CLICK HERE.
