The Cyclones had just one hit in the first five frames. In the sixth, back-to-back two-out singles by Phillip Evans and Kevin Plawecki put the tying run on third, but the Cyclones were unable to capitalize on their chance to score.
Yankees starting pitcher Andrew Benak earned his fifth win, going 5.0 scoreless innings with one hit, two walks, and two strikeouts. Pedro Feliciano and James Pazos combined for 3.0 scoreless innings of relief. Taylor Garrison collected his ninth save after pitching 1.0 innings with one walk and one strikeout.
Lara suffered his third loss of the season despite holding Staten Island to just one earned run on four hits through 7.0 innings. He walked two and fanned eight batters. In relief, Logan Taylor threw 2.0 innings, allowing one hit, one walk, and one strikeout.
Shortstop Phillip Evans led the Cyclones offense, going 2-for-4 with two singles.
