CYCLONES HAMMER YANKEES IN 11-0 SHUTOUT

Brooklyn, NY – August 25th – The Brooklyn bats exploded on Saturday night as the Cyclones shutout the Staten Island Yankees 11-0.

Brooklyn starting pitcher Hansel Robles cruised through 7.0 scoreless innings, earning his fifth win. He allowed three hits, one walk, and struck out eight. Robles leads the league with a 1.20 ERA and a 0.75 WHIP. He has not allowed an earned run in his last 31.0 innings (since July 28); and has not allowed a run of any kind in 22.0 innings.

The Cyclones were on the board in the first. Dimas Ponce and Phillip Evans had back-to-back singles before Eudy Pina reached on a throwing error by shortstop Claudio Custodio. With the bases loaded, Kevin Plawecki hit a sacrifice fly to center field to plate Ponce.

In the fifth, Brooklyn hit Yankees starting pitcher Gabriel Encinas for another two runs. Jeff Reynolds led off with a walk before Julio Concepcion singled. Reynolds then crossed the plate when Brandon Nimmo doubled on a fly ball to left field. Nimmo was later thrown out at second and Ponce grounded out to third, but a single by Evans allowed Concepcion to score.

Brooklyn batted around in the seventh, scoring eight runs. Ponce hit a two-run triple, allowing Reynolds and Nimmo – who had both walked – to score. Zach Woods then replaced Encinas on the mound for Staten Island, but things didn’t get any better for the Yankees. Evans hit his third single of the night to plate Ponce before Eudy Pina walked. Kevin Plawecki flied out to center and Alex Sanchez drew a walk. Following, Jeff Glenn singled to right, scoring Evans and Pina. Jeff Reynolds then blasted his second home run of the year – a three-run shot to left – to make it 11-0.

Logan Taylor and Tyler Vanderheiden each threw an inning of hitless relief for the Cyclones. Vanderheiden walked one and fanned two, while Taylor had one strikeout.

Encinas suffered the loss – his sixth of the season – after giving up six runs (five earned). In 6.1 innings, he allowed six hits, four walks, and struck out two.

The Cyclones will travel to Staten Island tomorrow to begin a four-game road trip. The team will face the Yankees at 4:00 PM. The Cyclones will return to MCU Park on Thursday, August 30th to play the Hudson Valley Renegades at 7:00 PM.
