Brooklyn, NY – August 11th – Kevin Plawecki went 2-for-3 with a home run, a run scored, two RBI, and a walk to lead the Cyclones to a 6-3 victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters on Saturday night.

Brooklyn starting pitcher Julian Hilario began the game, striking out the side in the top of the first. The Cyclones then put up two runs in the bottom half of the frame.

Brandon Nimmo – who returned to the lineup today after being out since last Sunday when he was hit by a pitch on his right shoulder – led off with a walk. Phillip Evans followed with a line drive single to right, moving Nimmo to third. With Jayce Boyd batting, Nimmo then scored on a balk by Vermont starter Michael Ynoa. Boyd lined out to second baseman Chris Bostick; however, Evans advanced to second on a wild pitch. A single off the bat of Kevin Plawecki then scored Evans to make it 2-0.

Three consecutive singles gave the Cyclones another two runs in the fourth. Eudy Pina got a two-out hit and stole second before coming home on a single by Nimmo. Nimmo advanced to second on the throw to home plate and later scored when Evans lined one up the middle.

The Lake Monsters were on the board in the top of the fifth. Back-to-back singles by Jacob Tanis and Kelvin Rojas put a runner in scoring position. A force out by Addison Russell moved Tanis to third, and a double by Austin Booker allowed him to cross the plate. Vermont had a chance for more, but left the bases loaded when John Wooten lined out to centerfield.

Kevin Plawecki gave Brooklyn a four-run advantage when he led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo shot to left – his fourth home run of the season.

That lead was cut in half, however, in the sixth when the Lake Monsters rallied after the Cyclones turned a double play. After Wilfredo Solano walked, three Vermont singles made the score 5-3.

Eudy Pina hit his fourth home run of the year in the sixth inning to extend the Cyclones’ lead.

Vermont starter Michael Ynoa suffered his second loss, lasting just 2.1 innings and giving up two earned runs off two hits with four walks and a strikeout.

Julian Hilario earned his second win, throwing 5.0 innings and allowing just one earned run off five hits. He walked two and struck out five. Matt Koch tossed an inning of relief, surrendering two earned runs off four hits and a walk. Beck Wheeler pitched a perfect eighth, and Paul Sewald came in to throw a hitless ninth and pick up his fourth save.

The Cyclones will play the final game of a three-game series against the Vermont Lake Monsters Sunday, August 12th at 5:00 PM. Tomorrow is Sunday Funday Bat Day. The first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a navy blue bat courtesy of GEICO. Tickets are available now by visiting the MCU box office, calling 718-507-TIXX, or CLICKING HERE.
