Brooklyn, NY – August 6th – The Cyclones completed the three game sweep of the Auburn Doubledays, 3-1. Rainy Lara was on the mound and struggled in the first inning, but then took control of the game earning his league leading sixth win of the year. Logan Taylor, Beck Wheeler and David Wynn would combine to throw three innings of hitless baseball to seal the victory. Both the pitchers and hitters dominated this series, as the Cyclones outscored Auburn 15-2.
In the first inning the Doubledays were able to score the first run of the game, thanks to a bases loaded groundout by Estarlin Martinez. Rainy Lara struggled in the first inning as he gave up three hits and one run. After the first, Lara settled in over the next five innings giving up two hits and one man reached on an error.
The Cyclones put two runs across in the fourth inning thanks to back-to-back home runs by Kevin Plawecki and Stefan Sabol. Coming into the game, Plawecki has been on a tear in his last 10 games batting .313 (10-32) with seven RBI. That home run by Plawecki was his third of the year and Sabol now has four.
Already leading 2-1 going into the bottom of the fifth, the Cyclones added an insurance run to make it a 3-1 lead. After Dimas Ponce was hit to lead off the bottom of the fifth, Richie Rodriguez and Eudy Pina both singled to load the bases with no out. Philip Evans then hit a sacrifice fly to center to score the third run of the game for the Cyclones and give them a 3-1 lead.
