CYCLONES SLUMP CONTINUES WITH 3-1 LOSS![]() Staten Island, NY – July 21 – The Cyclones offensive slump continued as they were limited to only four hits on Saturday evening, including going 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position en route to a 3-1 loss to the Staten Island Yankees. Brooklyn jumped out to an early lead thanks to Jeff Glenn’s solo home run, his first of the season, in the top of the third inning to put Brooklyn in front 1-0. But that is all the offense the Cyclones would muster on Saturday night. The team went down in order in five of the nine innings this evening. Luis Cessa made the start for Brooklyn and was solid, allowing one run in 5.0 innings and did not factor in the decision. Matt Bowman (1-2) was tagged with the loss after allowing a two-run home run to Saxon Butler in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Baby Bombers a 3-1 lead, which is how the game would end. For Butler, it was his league leading eighth round tripper of the season. The Brooklyn loss, coupled with a Hudson Valley win over Aberdeen, leaves Brooklyn in a tie for first place in the McNamara Division. The Cyclones return to MCU Park on Sunday at 5:00 pm for the finale of the four-game series with Staten Island. It will be Bat Day Sunday Funday with the first 3,000 fans in attendance receiving a white baseball bat courtesy of Verizon. Fans can also take advantage of a pre-game autograph session on the field from 4:00-4:30. Tickets start at just $9 and are on sale now by calling 718-507-TIXX, in person at the MCU Park box office or at BrooklynCyclones.com. |
