Brooklyn, NY – July 17th – After completing a three-game sweep of the State College Spikes, the Cyclones were defeated at home by the Hudson Valley Renegades on Tuesday night by a score of 4-1.
The Renegades jumped to an early 1-0 lead as Luke Maile homered to right in the top of the second inning. That home run was the first given up by Julian Hilario in his career.
In the fourth, Hudson Valley rallied for another three runs off the right hander. Ryan Dunn began things with a one out soft line drive single to left before back-to-back walks by Hilario loaded the bases. Michael Williams then hit a single to shallow center to plate Dunn. Following, Leonardo Reginatto ripped a double to left to score Joel Caminero and Marty Gantt.
Hilario was then pulled from the mound and replaced by Ernesto Yanez. Lasting just 3.1 innings, Hilario surrendered four earned runs off five hits with two walks and two strikeouts. With runners on second and third, Yanez got Joey Rickard to ground out and fanned Justin O’Connor to escape the inning.
The Cyclones put up a couple runs in the bottom of the sixth. Eudy Pina doubled to left field with one out before Juan Gamboa struck out swinging. Brandon Nimmo then hit a double to the wall in right, allowing Pina to cross the plate. Phillip Evans ended the frame with a groundout to third base.
