Staten Island, NY -- June 20 -- The Brooklyn bats came alive tonight in a 7-2 victory at Staten Island as the Cyclones pounded out seven runs on eight hits to defeat the Baby Bombers for the third consecutive night.

Starting pitcher Luis Cessa (1-0) earned the win, going five innings and allowing six hits, two earned runs, no walks, and four strikeouts. The Cyclones also got three innings of one-hit relief from Ernesto Yanez and David Wynn. Yanez struck out four batters in two innings of work, while Wynn finished the game with a perfect ninth.

The Yankees took an early lead scoring a run in the bottom of the first. Shortstop Jose Rosario tripled to score left fielder Taylor Dugas who began the inning with a double.

Brooklyn was scoreless until the top of the fourth. Left fielder Stefan Sabol singled on a fly ball to Dugas before advancing to second when DH Julio Concepcion drew a walk. Right fielder Eudy Pina then homered to center to give the Cyclones a 3-1 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Yankees’ right fielder Danny Oh began the frame, hitting a ground-rule double on a fly ball to left field. Oh reached third on a passed ball by Jeffrey Glenn and then later scored on an RBI single by second baseman Fu-Lin Kuo. But that’s all Staten Island could string together as Dugas and Rosario both flied out before center fielder Ravel Santana struck out swinging to end the inning.

The Cyclones added three runs to their lead in the sixth. Concepcion started things off reaching second on a ground-rule double. Pina and Glenn then drew back-to-back walks before third baseman Dimas Ponce plated Concepcion with a sacrifice fly to left. Second baseman Richie Rodriguez grounded into a force out at second to score Pina. And with Rodriguez at first, center fielder Brandon Nimmo doubled on a line drive to left to bring him home.

Nimmo advanced to third on a Yankees fielding error, and shortstop Phillip Evans walked to put runners on the corners; however, first baseman Alex Sanchez ended the inning with a pop out to second.

Brooklyn put one last run on the board in the seventh, as Pina doubled to score Sabol, who had also doubled.

The Cyclones will return to MCU Park tomorrow, Thursday, June 21st to take on the Staten Island Yankees again at 7:00 PM. Tickets are on sale now by calling 718-507-TIXX, visiting the MCU box office, or CLICKING HERE.
