CYCLONES SHUT DOWN YANKEES

Box Score

The Cyclones won their fifth straight game behind a strong pitching performance, beating Staten Island on Saturday night by a score of 3-1 in front of 9,293 fans.  Brooklyn (29-13) has the best record in the New York-Penn League and improves to seven games above the Yankees for first place in the McNamara Division -- the largest lead of the season.

LHP Chris Hilliard (6-1) earned his league-leading sixth win on Saturday night, allowing just one unearned run on five hits while striking out three over 6.1 innings of work.  LHP Hamilton Bennett relieved Hilliard in the seventh inning and did not allow a hit over the final 0.2 innings.  RHP Daniel Carela came on for two outs in the eighth, allowing just one hit before LHP Adam Kolarek came in from the bullpen to get the final out of the inning.  RHP Ryan Fraser came on in the ninth to earn his team-leading seventh save of the season.  Fraser's ERA is now 0.45 in 20 innings of work.

Brooklyn's explosive offense was held to just five hits but capitalized on their opportunities, leaving only two men on base in nine innings of play.  CF Darrell Ceciliani continued to swing a hot bat, going 1-for-3 with one run, one walk and one RBI.  RF Cory Vaughn and 1B Jeff Flagg tallied the Cyclones' other two RBI -- both with sacrifice flies in the third inning.  SS Rylan Sandoval saw his average jump five points to .325 as he put together a 2-for-4 effort with one run scored.  DH Joe Bonfe and C Juan Centeno checked in with one hit apiece, and Centeno scored a run.

The Cyclones return home on Monday, August 2nd  to take on the Hudson Valley Renegades at 7p.m.  That night the first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a one-of-a-kind Ike Davis upside-down Bobblehead. On Monday, fans can also purchase tickets for the game at 2001 prices thanks to "Turn Back the Clock" ticket pricing.  August 2nd is also Medieval Times Night at MCU Park, complete with a post-game joust.
