The Brooklyn Cyclones (29-17) scored five runs in the ninth inning on Saturday night to top the Batavia Muckdogs (22-24) by a score of 15-11. The win improves first-place Brooklyn's lead to four games in the McNamara Division.
The Cyclones banged out 14 hits, including five multi-hit performances. Jake Eigsti, Tyler vaughn, Alex Gregory, and Robbie Shields each had two hits, and Luis Rivera went 3-for-5. Rivera (pictured, by George Napolitano) and Gregory each hit home runs in the game. Rivera's was a solo shot in the third inning, and Gregory's was a three-run shot in seventh inning. Justin Garber went 0-for-3 in the game, but scored three times, and drove in a run.
Gregory and Nick Santomauro had three RBI each, and Rivera and Sam Honeck drove in two runs apiece. Vaughn and Eigsti also each chipped in one RBI.
Starting pitcher Wes Wrenn was touched up for five runs (four earned) on 11 hits in 4.2 innings, and was relieved by Bobby Gagg, who earned his first win, despite allowing three runs on four hits in 1.1 innings. Matias carrillo followed with 2.0 shutout, one-hit frames, and Mike Powers surrendered three runs in the ninth inning before finally closing out the Muckdogs.
The Cyclones return home on Friday, August 7th to host the Jamestown Jammers at KeySpan Park. That night the Cyclones will celebrate EMS and Civil Servant Night, presented by Municipal Credit Union. The first 2,500 fans in attendance will also receive a commemorative EMS T-Shirt presented by Midwood Ambulance. In addition, all fans in attendance will enjoy a post-game Fireworks show.
