CYCLONES SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER

In Game One of the doubleheader, LHP Jim Fuller (3-3) took another hard-luck loss, allowing just two runs on two hits in 5.0 innings.  He walked three batters and struck out six, as he ERA on the season is now at 1.75.  Fuller was relieved in the sixth inning by RHP Michael Johnson, who threw one perfect inning in the seven-inning loss.

Brooklyn's offense notched just two hits in the game -- one single each by RF Luis Rivera and 3B Tyler Vaughn.

In Game Two, RHP Collin McHugh (5-1) earned his fifth win of the season in the 7-4 victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters (17-15).  McHugh threw five shutout innings before the Lake Monsters scored their first runs of the ballgame in the sixth inning.  McHugh went 5.1 innings he was charged with three earned runs and struck out five.  McHugh has not walked a batter in his last 10.1 innings. 

The Cyclones' offense started early in the second game.  In the first inning, Rivera hit a sacrifice fly that scored CF Justin Garber.  Eventually, C Dock Doyle would score the second run of the inning on a wild pitch.  In the second inning, RF John Servidio and 2B Luis Nieves scored on a fielding error when Justin Garber attempted a sacrifice bunt.  Garber advanced to third on the play.  Garber scored on a single by Doyle later in the inning Doyle scored on an RBI single by Tyler Vaughn.  The Cyclones managed seven hits -- two apiece for Vaughn and Doyle -- and one each for Servidio, Nieves, Rivera, and 1B Sam Honeck.  Garber also walked three times, and  Honeck walked twice.

RHP Erik Turgeon relieved McHugh for the final two outs of the sixth inning, allowing just one hit.  RHP Michael Powers pitched a scoreless seventh inning, which earned him his sixth save of the season. 

The Cyclones return to KeySpan Park on Thursday, July 23rd to take on the rival Staten Island Yankees. The first 2,500 fans in attendance receive a free lunch box, courtesy of Verizon. In addition, the Cyclones will be honoring New York's Finest  on NYPD night, presented by Municipal Credit Union.
