The Cyclones had their three-game winning streak snapped on Friday, losing to the Spinners 2-1. The loss -- the first of the season to Lowell -- drops Brooklyn’s record to (34-27).
RHP Brad Holt made his 12th start of the season. Holt (pictured by George Napolitano) threw seven strong innings, allowing just one unearned run, and striking out 10 batters (the third time this season he has notched double-digit Ks. He now has 79 strikeouts this season to lead the NYPL. RHP Yury Santana (2-3) came on to replace Holt but after a scoreless eighth inning, he gave up the go-ahead run, surrendering a solo home run in the 9th inning.
Brooklyn trailed for most of the game until the seventh inning, when RF Kirk Nieuwenhuis led off with a double and later scored on an error to tie the game at one. The Cyclones, however, managed just one other hit -- by Jose Jimenez -- in the losing effort.
The Cyclones conclude their series against the Spinners on Saturday, August 23 at 6pm. Saturday is Italian Heritage Night.
