CYCLONES LOSE HEARTBREAKER

The Cyclones dropped their series opener against Jamestown, 4-3, after giving up two runs in the bottom of the eighth.  Brooklyn was in control of the game up until Jamestown rallied with a two-run single against the Cyclones' bullpen.  The loss also brings Brooklyn back to .500 with an 11-11 record.

The Cyclones were led offensively by 3B Eric Campbell, who went 3-for-4 including an RBI single in the third inning.  SS Reese Havens started at DH and led off the game with a double to right field, later scoring on a sacrifice fly by 1B Ike Davis.  Davis was also able to extend his hitting streak to 13 games with a single to right field in the fourth inning.  CF Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who has a five-game hitting streak of his own, singled to left field and notched an RBI with a sacrifice fly in the third inning.  C Ralph Henriquez also singled for Brooklyn, while 2B Ignacio Medrano and RF Seth Williams added singles in their Cyclones' debuts.

RHP Pedro P. Martinez made his fifth start of the season for Brooklyn, and has yet to receive a decision.  He worked six solid innings, allowing five hits and two runs with six strikeouts.   RHP Brandon Moore followed Martinez and picked up two strikeouts in a scoreless inning of relief.  LHP Jimmy Johnson and RHP Yury Santana allowed one run each in the bottom of the eighth, with Santana getting his second blown save and first loss of the season.

The Cyclones will continue their series against the Jamestown Jammers on Thursday and Friday.  They return home on Saturday for a big weekend at the ballpark featuring a Salute to Billy Joel, a replica jersey, pork rind sculptures, and Boomer & Carton!

On Saturday, the first 2,500 fans will receive a Billy Joel Baseball, as we salute Billy Joel. It’s also Bike night at the stadium, presented by Allstate Insurance.
