CONEY ISLAND NIGHT - JULY 1st

Coney Island Night

Brooklyn NY, June 26, 2013 – On Monday, July 1st, the Brooklyn Cyclones will take on the Staten Island Yankees in a doubleheader starting at 6:00 PM. The matchup between the two local teams will also mark the kickoff to the Cyclones season-long Meaningful Mondays campaign in which the team will highlight a local neighborhood still rebuilding following Superstorm Sandy, while also raising money for local charities through numerous fundraising programs.

Monday, July 1st will be Coney Island Night at MCU Park, with $3 from every individual ticket sold to that evening’s game donated to ConeyRecovers.org, a local organization working in partnership to assist with the recovery of the Coney Island Community.

“So many of our staff members and fans were impacted by this storm,” said Cyclones General Manager Steve Cohen. “We knew that we needed to do something to help those still affected and still recovering. That’s where this Meaningful Mondays program came from, because for us it truly is personal. And to kick it off with Coney Island night, just seemed like the logical way to go.”

As part of the evening, the Cyclones will wear special “comeBacK” jerseys featuring the names of communities throughout Brooklyn, Staten Island, Queens and Nassau County that were impacted by the storm. These jerseys will then be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting the Meaningful Mondays charities. In addition, the team will be selling special “comeBacK” t-shirts, with all proceeds from sales to benefit these same charities.

In between games of the doubleheader, the Cyclones will also honor numerous hometown heroes, who worked diligently to help those in need on Coney Island, and continue to be leaders in the recovery effort.

To cap off the night, 1,500 local Coney Island residents will be able to attend the game for free through the generosity of Skanska, a worldwide leader in construction, engineering, and development who worked extensively in the tri-state area following the storm. The company will also be making a $2,500 donation to ConeyRecovers.org.

“Skanska is proud to join forces with the Brooklyn Cyclones to launch Meaningful Monday with a celebration of the tri-state region’s recovery from Hurricane Sandy,” said Mike Viggiano, executive vice president for Skanska USA Civil Northeast. “Our community has come a long way since Sandy’s devastation last fall. While there is still work to be done, Meaningful Monday is a reminder that collaboration and teamwork can yield invaluable results. Through programs like Rapid Repairs and Meaningful Monday, New York has made incredible progress towards recovery. Skanska looks forward to continuing to support the community’s comeback.”

The Cyclones will continue their Meaningful Monday initiative on July 8th with Gerritsen Beach Night, followed by Nassau County Night (July 22nd), Red Hook Night (July 29th), Staten Island Night (August 19th) and Breezy Point / Rockaway Night (August 26th).
