CYCLONES STARS CONTINUE TO SHINE

SAL ALL STARS

Four members of the 2012 Brooklyn Cyclones team have been named to the South Atlantic Leagues (SAL) All-Star team. Gabriel Ynoa, Brandon Nimmo, Jayce Boyd and Kevin Plawecki will be representing the Savannah Sand Gnats during the game on June 18th in Lakewood, New Jersey.

Gabriel Ynoa leads the team in wins (7), innings (62.2), strikeouts (54) and has thrown the only complete game in all of the SAL. Ynoa threw 9.0 innings of one run ball while surrendering only five hits, while striking out four and walking none on June 2nd at the Kannapolis Intimidators. Ynoa also ranks first in the league in wins and in innings pitched.

Brandon Nimmo started the season off with a five game hitting streak, collecting 10 hits during that streak. Nimmo continued his strong hitting during the season as he was hitting .322 (29-90) through the end of April before being placed on the DL with a left hand contusion. After returning to the lineup on May 28th, Nimmo was hitless in his first two games back before going on a four game hit streak where he has collected six hits.

Jayce Boyd has been a model of consistency hitting the ball this season as he is hitting .350 (70-200), to go along with 20 multi-hit games and 36 RBI. Boyd is at the top of the league in batting average and ranks second in OBP at .433.

Kevin Plawecki is right there with Jayce Boyd in all-statistical categories, giving the Sand Gnats one of the best three-four hitters in the league. Plawecki is hitting .343 (69-201) with six home runs and 39 RBI, while also sporting a high OBP at .416. Plawecki also has 19 multi-hit games for the Sand Gnats on the season.

Bret Mitchell, who pitched briefly for the Cyclones in 2011, was also named to the team.
