On Tuesday, August 16th the New York-Penn League will host their seventh annual All-Star Game at LeLaucheur Park in Lowell, MA. The game will pit the National League Affiliates against their American League counterparts and once again the Cyclones will be well represented with five players named to the NYPL National League squad.
RICHARD LUCAS - Selected in the fourth round of the 2007 MLB Draft, the 21-year-old infielder has been one of the most consistent players in the New York-Penn League. Lucas ranks fifth in the league in hitting (.322), tied for fourth in hits (55), tied for third in extra-base hits (20) and leads the league with 36 runs scored. Lucas has reached base safely in 43 of his 46 games this season.
DANNY MUNO - Selected in the eighth round of the 2011 MLB Draft, Muno has shown Brooklyn fans what made him such a winner in college. Despite missing more than a week with a broken finger earlier in the season, Muno still ranks third in batting (.338) and leads the league in on-base percentage (.450).
TRAVIS TAIJERON - The 18th round selection in the 2011 Draft out of Cal Poly Pomona has been one of the hottest players in the league over the last month. He currently ranks 10th in the NYPL in hitting (.302), third in RBI (33) and home runs (7), is tied for the league lead with 21 extra base hits, and leads the NYPL in slugging (.564). Taijeron has 23 RBI in his last 21 games and is hitting .354 (28-79) since July 17th.
CHARLEY THURBER- Selected in the 39th round out of the University of Tennessee, Thurber seems to be the steal of the draft. Since July 4th, the outfielder is hitting .315 (34-108) and has hit in 22 of 28 games. Always Mr. Clutch for the Cyclones, Charley is also hitting .359(14-39) with runners in scoring position.
TYSON SENG- A 33rd round selection in the 2011 MLB Draft, Tyson Seng has been one of the most effective relievers in the league’s most effective bullpen. The righthander has allowed only two earned runs in 28.0 innings for a 0.64 ERA. Since July 1st, Send has allowed just one earned run and has struck out 29 while compiling a 3-1 record with two saves out of the Brooklyn bullpen.
