In 2003, a 15-year-old high school student from Howard Beach named Pia Toscano performed “The Star Spangled Banner” at MCU Park in one of the first public performances of her life. Fast forward eight years and that young girl has now become a household name after wowing fans on Season 10 of American Idol. This summer, while touring the country and performing in front of sellout crowds from coast-to-coast, Pia will return to where it all began when she comes back to MCU Park on Monday, August 22nd.
“Since we started in 2001, we’ve had a lot of stars begin their careers at MCU Park, but they have all been stars on the baseball diamond,” said Cyclones General Manager Steve Cohen. “As proud as we are to say that guys like Ike Davis started their baseball careers here, we are just as proud to say that Pia Toscano started her singing career here, and is just as much a part of the Brooklyn Cyclones family.”
Just like those former Cyclones who have gone on to greater fame in the big leagues, the team plans to honor the now 22-year-old singer’s achievements in a ceremony prior to its 7:00 PM game against the Tri-City Valley Cats on August 22nd. Details will be finalized in the coming weeks, but plans are underway to make “Pia Toscano Appreciation Night” yet another evening at MCU Park that will help make the 2011 Brooklyn Cyclones season the most memorable in team history.
Tickets for the August 22nd game are now available by phone at 718-507-TIXX, online at brooklyncyclones.com or by visiting the MCU Park box office. You can also catch Pia on the American Idols Live! Tour this summer when it comes to the New York area on August 15th at the Prudential Center or August 23rd & 24th at the Nassau Coliseum. For more information, please visit AmericanIdol.com.
