BROOKLYN BEATS MONSTERS AGAIN

Box Score

On Jersday Thursday at MCU Park, the Brooklyn Cyclones (49-23) won the final game of the series against the Vermont Lake Monsters (34-36) by the score of 8-1. Brooklyn took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning and allowed just one run on three hits in the game.  Because of a suspended game, and a rain out that was made up at MCU Park, Thursday's win was the fifth in three days for Brooklyn over Vermont.  The Cyclones are 28-7 at home with three home games left in the regular season and after Wednesday night's win, have clinched home-field advantage in the playoffs.

The Brooklyn offense exploded for eight runs on 11 hits, and went 6-for-14 with runners in scoring position. DH Joe Bonfe had three hits and is 7-for-8 over his past two games. C Juan Centeno continued his torrid hitting at home, going 2-for-4, and is now batting .586 at MCU Park this season. RF Will Cherry went 2-for-3 with two RBI and 3B James Schroeder had two hits and an RBI.

RHP Yohan Almonte was masterful in his last start of the regular season, nearly throwing four perfect innings to shutdown the Lake Monsters. Almonte yielded no hits, runs, walks, or errors for the first time in a start this season. The only blemish was a strikeout wild pitch, which allowed the batter to safely reach first base. Almonte now has eight wins and a 1.92 ERA -- both rank second best in the New York-Penn League. NYC native Daniel Carela relieved Almonte and threw 1.2 hitless innings, earning his second win of the season. Southpaw T.J. Chism struck out every batter he faced over 1.1 innings, allowing two hits. LHP Brian Needham pitched the eighth inning and surrendered a two-out solo shot for Vermont's only run of the game.  Flamethrower Ryan Fraser closed out the game with a hitless inning and two strikeouts.

The Cyclones take on the Tri-City Valley Cats in the final regular-season series starting Friday, September 3rd. That night's game is presented by Opportunity for a Better Tomorrow and the first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a set of Brooklyn Cyclones Fan Bands. Fans are also invited to stay after the game for a spectacular Friday Fireworks Show.

There's something for everyone at every Cyclones game -- free t-shirts, free jerseys, bobbleheads, fireworks, free food, and more!
