CYCLONES FALL SHORT TO VERMONT

Box Score

The Brooklyn Cyclones (40-23) surrendered a three-run lead in the last inning to fall to the Vermont Lake Monsters (29-33) by a score of 7-6.

Starting pitcher Darin Gorski (pictured by George Napolitano) did not surrender a base hit until the fourth inning, which was a bunt single that was immediately erased by a ground ball double play.  Gorski pitched six strong innings in which he allowed three runs on three hits.  He surrendered one walk and recorded three strikeouts.

The Cyclones showed patience early, and took the lead on an RBI walk by IF Scott Grimes with the bases loaded, and scored another run on an error to take a 2-0 lead in the first inning.  The Cyclones tallied four runs in the sixth inning to take a 6-3 lead which they would not be able to hold for a victory.  An RBI single by SS Robbie Shields scored C Dock Doyle, later in the inning new Cyclone 2B Jordany Valdespin recorded two RBIs on a single to score Shields and CF Justin Garber.  The Cyclones' final run came on a single by 3B Richard Lucas that scored Valdespin.

The Cyclones had six hits.  RF Luis Rivera had two, Garber, Valdespin, Lucas and Shields all contributed with one hit apiece.

RHP Manuel Olivares started the seventh inning in relief of Gorski.  Olivares surrendered one hit, one walk, and struck out one batter in two innings of relief.  RHP Michael Powers pitched the ninth inning.  The New York Penn League leader in saves surrendered four runs on four hits, he surrendered one walk and no strikeouts in one inning of relief and was saddled with the loss.

Tuesday August 25th the Cyclones are giving Cyclones lunch boxes to the first 2,500 fans in the ball park.  We request that all fans in attendence wear the color Red in support of the American Heart Association Awareness for the American Heart Association Awareness Night.
