The Cyclones (35-20) took the first game of a three game series against the Oneonta Tigers (28-24), winning 6-5 Friday night.
In his 11th start of the season, Collin McHugh locked up his sixth win of the year. In 6.0 innings pitched, McHugh struck out seven and gave up two runs on four hits and two walks. McHugh has not allowed more than 4 hits in his last four starts.
In the bottom of the second, C Juan Centeno knocked in the first run of the game with a double to centerfield to score 1B Alex Gregory, who reached with a leadoff single. The Cyclones kept the pressure on as they scored again in the third inning, thanks to an RBI groundout by DH Ralph Henriquez that scored RF Luis Rivera. Rivera, who set the table with a leadoff walk, was moved across to third following a single by LF Nick Santomauro and a throwing error by the Tigers. Santomauro had three hits in the game.
After Oneonta tied the game in the fourth inning, the Cyclones offense scored four more runs -- two in the sixth and two in the seventh -- to take the lead for good.
After a late charge by the Tigers, LHP Matias Carrillo tossed a perfect eighth inning, and RHP Michael Powers closed the game for his league-leading 12th save.
