CYCLONES SWEPT IN DOUBLEHEADER

The Brooklyn Cyclones (27-16) were swept in a doubleheader on Saturday, but still maintain a three-game lead over the Staten Island Yankees (24-19) in the McNamara Division.

Box Score

In Game One of the doubleheader, Brooklyn managed just four hits, including a double by Luis Rivera, and did not score a run in a 5-0 loss to the Yankees.  Justin Garber, Jake Eigsti, and Sam Honeck notched Brooklyn's other three hits.

Jim Fuller threw a six-inning complete game, surrendering five runs (four earned) on eight hits, while walking two and striking out five.

Box Score

In Game Two, the Cyclones' offense again totaled four hits, and this time scored one run.  Nick Giarraputo had two hits in the game, while Alex Gregory and Luis Rivera had one each.  Ralph Henriquez drove in Rivera for Brooklyn's lone run of the day.

Brandon Moore made the start for the Cyclones, and pitched 5.0 innings, allowing three runs on four hits.  Moore walked one batter and struck out nine.  He was relieved in the sixth inning by Erik Turgeon, who tossed a perfect frame, but Brooklyn could not mount a comeback.

On Monday, August 3rd, the Brooklyn Cyclones will host Darryl Strawberry Night, and the first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a limited-edition “Strawbobble” – a bobblehead depicting the New York baseball legend. Strawberry will also throw out the game’s ceremonial first pitch. Strawberry is currently a Club Ambassador with the Mets, and has served as a roving coach in Brooklyn at various times throughout the past two seasons.

Strawberry will also be on hand for the Cyclones’ third annual Golf Outing, on Monday, August 10th. He will play in the tournament that day, and will be a keynote speaker at the outing’s dinner that evening.
