THANK YOU, FANS

The Cyclones would like to thank all our fans for the passion, loyalty, and support that makes Brooklyn baseball so special.  The 2008 was a thrilling one that came down to extra innings in the last game of the season.  The season ended, unfortunately, without a playoff berth, but the team won 11 of its last 13 games in an amazing run that fans will never forget!

This season featured some amazing performances and entertainment, both on and off the field, including:

  • The Cyclones leading the league in attendance for the eighth strainght season (265,214 fans)
  • RHP Brad Holt leading the league in ERA (1.87) and strikeouts (96)
  • Holt setting new franchise records for single-game (14) and season-long (96) strikeout totals
  • Three Cyclones pitchers ranking in the Top 10 in ERA (Holt, 1.87; RHP Chris Schwinden, 2.01; and RHP Scott Shaw, 2.80)...Holt and Schwinden ranked first and second, respectively, and Shaw ranked seventh
  • The Cyclones pitching staff ranking first in ERA (.276) for the second consecutive year
  • Brooklyn legend Carl Erskine returing to the borough to have his number honored at KeySpan Park...Erskine also threw out the game's ceremonial first pitch and played the National Anthem on his harmonica
  • OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis tying a franchise record for hits (79) and leading the team in virtually every offensive category
  • Superhero Night, Country-Western Night, Backwards Night, Medieval Times Night, and dozens of other great theme nights
  • The Mets' top three picks of the draft playing in Brooklyn for the first time (Ike Davis, Reese Havens, and Brad Holt)
  • 17-year-old SS Wilmer Flores becoming the youngest player ever to play for the Cyclones
  • Switch hitting C Jordan Abruzzo becoming the first Cyclone ever to hit home runs from both sides of the plate in the same game
  • And much, much, more!
The players, coaches, and front office members of the Cyclones sincerely appreciate the fans whose support makes all this possible.  We're already cooking up more fun and surprises for next year, and can't wait to see you back at the ballpark!
