SS Reese Havens
gave his team a treat on Wednesday. Havens (pictured, by George Napolitano)
hit a three-run homer in the ninth inning to help the Cyclones beat Williamsport 4-3. It was Havens' first professional home run and it could not have come at a better time for Brooklyn. The dramatic win was the second in three games for the Cyclones, after 1B Ike Davis
hit a walk-off single to defeat Hudson Valley on Monday night.
Offensively, 3B Zach Lutz
and LF Sean Ratliff
got two hits each for the Cyclones, with Ratliff driving in a run with an RBI single to center field in the top of the eighth. 1B Ike Davis
was able to extend his hitting streak to seven games with a double in the first inning. 2B Brandon Richey
also lined a single to center for Brooklyn. The Cyclones only had one run on six hits prior to Havens' home run.
RHP Pedro P. Martinez
made his fourth start of the season, working four innings, allowing two runs with four strikeouts while only surrendering one hit. RHP Manny Olivares
relieved Martinez and pitched two innings with two strikeouts and giving up a run. RHP Brandon Moore
picked up the win for Brooklyn, only giving up one hit with two strikeouts in two scoreless innings of relief. And RHP Yury Santana
notched his league-leading fifth save of the year, retiring the side in order in the bottom of the ninth.
