BROOKLYN, N.Y. – July 30, 2015 – This season, Minor League Baseball (MiLB) named DeVry University as the “Official Education and Career Development Partner of Minor League Baseball.” This summer, MiLB and DeVry University are recognizing outstanding undergraduate and graduate students from the university who demonstrate citizenship, personal and academic leadership, and dedication to their fields of study as the “Student of the Month.”
Christopher Casco from the DeVry College of New York campus in Rego Park is one of 25 students nationwide to receive this honor. Casco will be honored Friday, July 31, at the game against the Batavia Muckdogs.
Casco is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in networking and communication management from the university’s College of Engineering & Information Sciences. On campus, Casco is an intern who provides IT and student-related support. He values philanthropy and compassion by being an active member in the LGBT community and volunteers for an organization known as the Ali Forney Center in New York City. The AFC Outreach Program provides supportive services, and educational programming to homeless, runaway, street-based and at-risk LGBTQ youth ages 16-24. In addition, Casco spends his free time serving meals to displaced teens at the AFC Center.
“We are honored to help DeVry University celebrate some of its best and brightest students,” said Steve Cohen, Vice President of the Brooklyn Cyclones. “As a community partner, we welcome the opportunity to provide Christopher with a special ballpark experience and recognize him for his accomplishments.”
