FIREWORKS TO LIGHT UP THE CONEY ISLAND SKY ON JULY 4th

In collaboration with Mayor Bill de Blasio and the Mayor’s Office of Citywide Event Coordination and Management, New York City Department of Parks and Recreation with support from City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, Borough President Eric Adams, and Councilman Mark Treyger, the Alliance for Coney Island announces the Coney Island July 4th Fireworks Spectacular in conjunction with the 2014 Friday Night Fireworks Series.

And there will be no better viewing spot for this Independence Day Extravaganza than from the comfort of your own seat inside MCU Park following the Cyclones and IronBirds squaring off at 6:00 PM.

“With many thanks to our elected officials and to City Hall, Parks, NYPD, and FDNY for their support, the Alliance is proud to bring July 4th Fireworks to Coney Island,” said Dennis Vourderis, Chairman of the Alliance for Coney Island and co-owner of Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park. “Between the hot dogs, the baseball game, the beach, rides, and the fireworks show, there are many reasons to spend Independence Day with us in America’s Original Playground.”

“I was thrilled to work with Borough President Adams, Councilman Treyger, Speaker Mark-Viverito, and the Alliance for Coney Island to bring a 4th of July fireworks spectacular to Coney Island,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. “Combined with Coney Island’s great traditions, residents and visitors alike won’t want to miss this celebration. And now, from the East River to south Brooklyn, even more New Yorkers will get to take part in 4th of July festivities.”

"The Council is proud to support the Alliance for Coney Island’s firework display," said Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito. "For generations, Coney Island has represented America's great summer traditions with baseball, hotdogs, amusement park rides and the beach. Putting on a stunning fireworks show at this iconic American landmark is a fantastic way to celebrate our nation's independence on the Fourth of July. "

“There is nothing more quintessentially American than Coney Island on the Fourth of July, and it simply would be incomplete without a fireworks show to light up the Brooklyn sky,” said Borough President Eric Adams. “Bringing the rocket’s red glare back to the beach this year was a labor of love, and I thank all the elected officials and community leaders that helped make this possible, especially Mayor de Blasio. Join us this Independence Day for a spectacular show; you will not want to miss it!”

"I am thrilled that the great Coney Island tradition of celebrating our nation's independence with a spectacular fireworks show will continue this year. There is nothing quite like taking in a breathtaking display while enjoying our neighborhood's great beach, boardwalk, restaurants and amusements,” said Councilmember Mark Treyger. “My thanks to Mayor de Blasio, Speaker Mark-Viverito, Borough President Adams, the Parks Department and all of my Coney Island colleagues who heard the community’s wishes and worked hard to make sure this year's show will be as great as ever."

The July 4th Firework show has been designed to enhance the July 4th event program in Coney Island. There will be a full day of fun in Coney Island with festivities for the Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest kicking-off at 10am and the Brooklyn Cyclones taking on the Aberdeen Iron Birds at 6pm. The beach, boardwalk concessions, WCS New York Aquarium, Thunderbolt Roller Coaster and all other rides at Luna Park and Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park will be open to celebrate Independence Day.

Fireworks will light up the Coney Island sky all summer long as there will be free firework shows in Coney Island every Friday Night through the end of August. The 2014 Coney Island Fireworks series is presented by the Alliance for Coney Island with support from I Love NY, New York State’s Division of Tourism and Good Humor Ice Cream.
