CYCLONES HIT TWO HOME RUNS IN WIN 4-2

Brooklyn, NY – July 28, 2013 -- The Cyclones came away with a 4-2 win, thanks to a strong start by John Gant and two home runs. Gant went 6.0 IP, giving up six hits, two runs, one earned walking none and struck out seven batters. This was the first time on the season that the Cyclones hit more than one homer on the night.

Brooklyn started the scoring early as they were able to take the lead right away in the bottom of the first inning. After Patrick Biondi and Gavin Cecchini were retired for the first two outs, L.J. Mazzilli reached on a single up the middle and scored on a double by Jared King to take the early 1-0 lead.

Hudson Valley would respond with a run in the top of the third inning with a run to tie the game. Ryan McChesney singled off Gant and then reached third on a fielding error by Anthony Chavez with James Harris up to bat. After the ball went by Chavez, Harris tried for second base but Jared King with a heads up play fired the ball into second base in time for the out. However, McChesney would score during the next at-bat when John Alexander singled up the middle to tie the game at 1-1.

Anthony Chavez would redeem himself in the bottom of the fifth by launching a two run shot over the left field wall. Alex Sanchez led the inning off with a double and after two Cyclones were retired, Chavez came up and launched a home run over the left field wall, ending his 0-for-17 skid that stretched over six games. That home run gave Brooklyn a 3-1 lead.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Renegades loaded the bases on three singles and with one out Ariel Soriano stepped up to the plate. Gant was looking in for the sign and was called for a balk, scoring John Alexander and moving each base runner up one base. Gant would avoid further trouble though, retiring both Soriano and Narvaez to end the inning.

Brooklyn would hit another home run on the evening, giving them a two run cushion as they extended their lead to 4-2. Alex Sanchez connected on his first home run since August 31, 2012 against the Staten Island Yankees.

Brooklyn will return to MCU Park tomorrow, July 29 at 7:00 PM as they square off against the Hudson Valley Renegades. For tickets call 718-507-TIXX, visit the ticket office or CLICK HERE.
