The Brooklyn Cyclones will once again be celebrating Jewish Heritage Night at MCU Park in Coney Island on Sunday, June 23rd at 5:00 P.M. when the Cyclones host the Hudson Valley Renegades. The evening will be made even more special as the team’s mascot, Sandy the Seagull, celebrates his 13th season with his very own Sandy Mitzvah! Fans will be there to witness Sandy begin his journey into adulthood.
Sandy Mitzvah activities will begin once the gates open at 3:30 P.M. Fans can help lift Sandy in the chair when we dance the Horah, followed by a cake and candle lighting ceremony where they will get to see many of Sandy’s friends, including King Henry and fellow mascot Pee Wee, pay homage to the famous seagull.
But that isn’t the only thing fans can expect before the game – the Cyclones will be hosting a special Baby Naming ceremony with one of the team’s season ticket holders’ newborn baby girl. In addition, an attempt at a new record will be made when the team has a total of 18 rabbis throwing out the ceremonial first pitch! Musical guest The Olam Quartet will also be playing klezmer and jazz on top of the third base dugout.
Fans should bring their glove for a special catch on the field before the game starts (and kids will be able to run the bases on the field when it ends!). Once the Cyclones players take the field, they will be sporting Hebrew Cyclones jerseys, which will be raffled off the players’ backs after the game to help raise money for the team’s S.T.R.I.K.E. program, which aims to restore and improve sports equipment for needy youth league teams throughout the local area.
For groups of 10 or more, tickets start at $13 each and include field box seats and a free souvenir Cyclones hat. They can add a Kosher hot dog, chips and soft drink for just $7 more. For ticket information, contact Jared Silverman at (718) 382-2670.
To purchase individual tickets starting as low as $9, call 718-507-TIXX, or visit BrooklynCyclones.com.
