TUESDAY NIGHT'S WIN IS POWERED BY PONCE

Aberdeen, MD – August 28th - The Brooklyn Cyclones beat the Aberdeen IronBirds 6-3 after scoring the winning run in the 11th inning. Luis Cessa put together a quality start going 6.0 innings allowing three earned runs, before Matt Bowman and John Mincone came in and shut down the IronBirds offense for 5.0 innings.

After Brandon Kine came in relief of Cameron Coffey in the top of the fourth, Jayce Boyd gave him a rude entrance. After Kevin Plawecki struck out swinging, Boyd launched a home run over the left center field wall to give Brooklyn the early 1-0 lead. This was Boyd’s second homer in as many nights giving him four on the year.

In the top of the fifth inning, newly acquired Cyclone Maikis De La Cruz tripled to center field, bringing up Brandon Nimmo with one out. Nimmo then doubled to left field, scoring De La Cruz and giving the Cyclones the 2-0 lead.

Luis Cessa had been cruising through the game not allowing a base runner until the bottom of the sixth. Hector Veloz changed that though as he was hit by a pitch to lead the inning off. Will Howard then moved Veloz to second after singling with no out. Anthony Vega then doubled to right with one out, scoring Veloz and moving Howard to third. Cessa then induced Creede Simpson to pop out to second baseman Jeff Reynolds for the second out of the inning. Torsten Boss then gave Aberdeen its first lead of the night, 3-2, as he tripled to right field scoring both Howard and Vega.

Brooklyn would strike right back as they tied the game in the top of the seventh inning. Reynolds led the inning off by singling to center field and then moved to second after De La Cruz walked. Nimmo then struck out for the first out of the inning with runners still on first and second. While Dimas Ponce was up to bat, Sam Kimmel committed a passed ball moving each runner up one base. Ponce then hit a fly ball to center field that was deep enough for Reynolds to score and tie the game at 3-3.

In the top of the 11th inning the Cyclones were able to score three runs and give them a 6-3 lead. With one out, Reynolds walked and reached third after shortstop Joel Hutter committed an error on a grounder by De La Cruz. After Nimmo struck out for the second out, Ponce doubled to right, scoring both Reynolds and De La Cruz. After Phillip Evans drew a walk, Kevin Plawecki singled to left scoring Ponce and giving Brooklyn the lead back.

The Brooklyn Cyclones will take on the Hudson Valley Renegades tomorrow, August 29th at 6:35 PM. The Cyclones will return to MCU Park on Thursday, August 30th at 7:00 PM. Tickets are available by visiting the box office, calling 718-507-TIXX, or CLICKING HERE.
